If You’ve Returned to 3Commas After a Long Break

What to check if you have old or outdated API connections

If you’ve been away for a while, we’ve made important updates to improve security and enhance your trading experience.
To ensure everything works smoothly, here’s a step-by-step guide to reconnect your account and resolve common issues.


Step 1: Check API Keys and Exchange Connections

When returning to 3Commas, outdated or revoked API keys are one of the most common issues. Here’s how to identify and resolve problems:

Symptoms of Outdated API Keys

  • “Invalid API” messages or alerts in active trades

  • UPNL not updating in Bot trades or SmartTrades

  • Errors canceling, closing, or starting new trades

  • Exchange balances not loading in Portfolio

How to Check Your API Keys

  1. Look for error messages like:

    • “API key revoked”

    • “Invalid API key”

  2. Click the refresh button next to the exchange account. If there’s an issue, you’ll see a prompt to update your API key.

How to Update Your API Keys

  1. Click Update API Key (red button or from the 3-dot menu).

  2. Log in to your exchange account and delete any old keys.

  3. Generate a new API key + Secret. If supported, use Fast Connect for faster and safer setup.

Important Notes

  • All 3Commas connections now require IP whitelisting.

    • Fast Connect applies the correct whitelist automatically.

    • For manual connections, follow the IP Whitelisting Guide.

  • Sub-accounts: Use classic API key connections, not Fast Connect.


Step 2: Watch for Possible Issues

1. Failed or Canceled Trades

If keys are outdated, trades may fail or show as canceled. Don’t worry, these can be recreated:

Your Portfolio may show a lower balance if funds are stuck in active Limit Orders.

How to Check & Unlock Funds:

  1. Match order IDs with SmartTrades or DCA Bot trades.

  2. If leftover orders remain after a trade, log in to your exchange and delete them manually.


Step 3: Stay Secure with IP Whitelisting

All API connections now require IP whitelisting:

  • Fast Connect: Automatically applies whitelist addresses.

  • Manual API keys: Add the whitelist manually. See our IP Whitelisting Guide.

This prevents unauthorized access and keeps your trading accounts secure.
