If you’ve been away for a while, we’ve made important updates to improve security and enhance your trading experience.
To ensure everything works smoothly, here’s a step-by-step guide to reconnect your account and resolve common issues.
Step 1: Check API Keys and Exchange Connections
When returning to 3Commas, outdated or revoked API keys are one of the most common issues. Here’s how to identify and resolve problems:
Symptoms of Outdated API Keys
“Invalid API” messages or alerts in active trades
UPNL not updating in Bot trades or SmartTrades
Errors canceling, closing, or starting new trades
Exchange balances not loading in Portfolio
How to Check Your API Keys
Go to My Portfolio.
Look for error messages like:
Click the refresh button next to the exchange account. If there’s an issue, you’ll see a prompt to update your API key.
How to Update Your API Keys
Click Update API Key (red button or from the 3-dot menu).
Log in to your exchange account and delete any old keys.
Generate a new API key + Secret. If supported, use Fast Connect for faster and safer setup.
Important Notes
All 3Commas connections now require IP whitelisting.
Fast Connect applies the correct whitelist automatically.
For manual connections, follow the IP Whitelisting Guide.
Sub-accounts: Use classic API key connections, not Fast Connect.
Step 2: Watch for Possible Issues
1. Failed or Canceled Trades
If keys are outdated, trades may fail or show as canceled. Don’t worry, these can be recreated:
Futures trades: Follow this guide: Take control of an orphaned position.
Spot trades: Follow this guide: Create a Smart Buy or Smart Sell trade.
2. Locked Funds
Your Portfolio may show a lower balance if funds are stuck in active Limit Orders.
How to Check & Unlock Funds:
Open the Opened Orders widget.
Match order IDs with SmartTrades or DCA Bot trades.
If leftover orders remain after a trade, log in to your exchange and delete them manually.
Step 3: Stay Secure with IP Whitelisting
All API connections now require IP whitelisting:
Fast Connect: Automatically applies whitelist addresses.
Manual API keys: Add the whitelist manually. See our IP Whitelisting Guide.
This prevents unauthorized access and keeps your trading accounts secure.
