Troubleshooting: What to do when a Coin is Delisted

Learn how to manage delisted coins, protect your bots, and switch to supported trading pairs on 3Commas.

Updated this week

Important

Exchanges may delist coins—including stablecoins or altcoins—for regulatory, liquidity, or internal policy reasons. If one of your trading pairs is affected, it’s critical to take action to avoid bot interruptions or unintended trades on 3Commas.

Why Are Coins Delisted?

Coins can be removed from an exchange for various reasons:

  • Regulatory compliance (e.g., MiCA, SEC, or regional rules)

  • Low trading volume or poor liquidity

  • Security vulnerabilities or project shutdowns

  • Exchange restructuring or internal policies

When this happens, the exchange may:

  • Disable deposits, withdrawals, or trading for the asset

  • Convert remaining balances to another coin (often USDC or BTC)

  • Remove the trading pair entirely, affecting your bots and open trades

Additional Note

Always check your exchange’s official announcements to confirm deadlines, supported replacements, and auto-conversion rules.

What Happens If You Don’t Take Action?

If you keep trading with a delisted asset:

  • Your bots will stop functioning once the trading pair is removed

  • Open orders may be cancelled or forcibly closed by the exchange

  • Remaining funds may be converted automatically (based on the exchange’s policy)

Be proactive: Review your active bots and trades regularly to ensure they don’t rely on unstable or deprecated trading pairs.

How Does Delisting Affect Your Bots on 3Commas?

1. DCA, Grid, and Signal Bots

If your bot uses a delisted coin as either the base or quote currency, it will encounter errors or pause once the exchange removes the trading pair.

What You Can Do:

  • Manually close all active trades using the affected coin.

  • Reconfigure or recreate the bot with a supported pair (e.g., switch from XYZ/USDT to XYZ/USDC).

2. How to Update Your 3Commas Bot Settings

For DCA Bots:

  • Stop or pause the bot that uses a delisted pair

  • Edit the bot or create a new one using a supported coin (e.g., USDC, BTC, or ETH as the quote)

For Grid Bots:

  • Stop the Grid Bot to close open orders

  • Select a new pair with an available quote asset and relaunch

For Signal Bots:

  • Check if your external signal (e.g., from TradingView or JSON) references a removed pair

  • Adjust signal configuration and bot settings to use a valid trading pair

Tip

If you're unsure what quote currencies are supported, visit your exchange's spot or futures markets page to view active pairings.

3. How to Avoid Trading Delisted Pairs in the Future

  • Manually review trading pairs before starting a new bot.

  • Stay updated on exchange announcements regarding future delistings.

4. How to recreate active trades with a delisted stablecoin?
