Demo Account: Practice Trading with Virtual Funds

Learn how the Demo (Paper Trading) account works in 3Commas and what features are available.

Updated over a week ago

The Demo account lets you explore crypto trading using simulated funds, without any financial risk. It's ideal for testing strategies, practicing with bots, and learning how 3Commas works — all in real time.

What is the Demo Account?

  • The Demo account, also known as Paper Trading, is a simulated account with virtual funds.

  • It mimics real market conditions using live Binance Spot price data.

  • You don’t need to deposit anything — just press a button to get $10,000 in virtual funds.

  • It's the safest way to test trading strategies, tools, and automations before using real funds.

What You Can Do with a Demo Account

  • Trade with live market data from Binance Spot.

  • Try out Smart Trade, DCA bots, and Grid bots.

  • Experiment with TradingView custom signals and test your own apps using the 3Commas Developer API.

  • Practice technical analysis without financial risk.

  • Test trading setups without worrying about partial fills, fees (beyond the simulated 0.1%), or liquidity issues.

Important Differences from Real Trading

  • No real order book simulation:
Orders fill instantly when the price reaches your target, regardless of size.

  • No liquidity simulation:
Market orders fill as if there's unlimited liquidity. On real exchanges, slippage may occur due to low liquidity.

  • Trailing tools always work perfectly:
Since market conditions are ideal, tools like Trailing Take Profit, Trailing Buy, or Trailing Stop Loss always execute at the best possible price.

  • Automatic Rebalancing is not accessible through Demo trading.

Usage & Limitations

  • Performance Warning:
Demo accounts are a lower priority than real accounts. During high system load, Demo trading may experience delays or interruptions.

  • Large balance simulation may be inaccurate:
The Demo account doesn’t support slippage or partial fills for large trades.
To simulate trading with a large portfolio (e.g., $1,000,000), use smaller balances (e.g., $100,000) and reduce order sizes proportionally.

  • Not designed for long-term asset tracking:
Use Virtual Portfolio if you want to track holdings across many assets.

  • Maximum recommended balance:
For optimal performance, Demo account funds should stay below $350,000 total value.
You can’t transfer profits from Demo to Real account — profits and losses are virtual.

Demo Account Balances

Each Demo account starts with:

  • 10,000 USDT

  • 300 BNB

  • 50 ETH

  • 1 BTC

You can add funds with a button or reset balances at any time.

Account Access & Restrictions

  • You must have an active paid subscription to use the Demo account.

  • Only one Demo account is allowed per user.

  • The number of tools (e.g., bots, active trades) available on Demo matches your subscription plan.

  • Demo account simulates a 0.1% fee per order.
