Important:
3Commas does not officially support Copy Trading or Lead Trader account types.
In some cases, you may still be able to connect these accounts and place trades through 3Commas, but this is at your own risk. These account types are controlled by exchange-specific rules and often come with restrictions that can cause unexpected errors.
Copy Trader vs Lead Trader accounts
Some exchanges separate copy trading into two special account types:
Lead Trader: an account that generates trades for others to copy
Copy Trader: an account that follows and copies a lead trader
Both account types may have exchange-enforced limitations that can affect how orders behave in 3Commas.
What are the risks?
Copy Trading and Lead Trader accounts can have special trading rules enforced by the exchange. If you use one of these account types with 3Commas, you may run into:
Trade rejections
Order placement errors
Position size mismatches
Leverage limits
Minimum or maximum order size restrictions
These limitations are not set by 3Commas. They come from the exchange because the account is designated for Copy Trading or Lead Trading.
Why am I seeing errors on 3Commas?
If you see frequent failed orders, rejected trades, or unusual behavior, common causes include:
Your exchange account is a Copy Trader or Lead Trader account
The exchange applies different parameters to these account types
This can affect things like:
Order size validation
Margin usage
Leverage allowance
Advanced order types
Check your exchange account settings and refer to the exchange’s Copy Trading / Lead Trader documentation for the rules that apply to your account type.
What should I do if I want to keep using 3Commas?
For smoother and more predictable trading, we recommend using a standard (classic) trading account instead of a Copy Trading or Lead Trader account.
To do that:
Switch your exchange account back to a classic/standard trading account
Disable Copy Trading mode (and any Lead Trader mode, if applicable) in your exchange settings
Reconnect the exchange account to 3Commas (if needed)
Once you’re back on a classic account, trading should behave normally in 3Commas.
