To link an FTX Futures Sub Account, follow these steps!

Before you begin

If you have been attempting to link the sub-account unsuccessfully, you may have created several linked accounts that don’t have matching Futures accounts and that you will not require to trade with as they will be duplicates.

So go to the My Exchanges page and delete any linked FTX accounts you previously created during any previous unsuccessful attempts to avoid any confusion or duplicate accounts.

Let’s begin.

  1. Open 2 browser tabs on your PC or Laptop. One tab should be on the 3Commas My Exchanges page with FTX selected at the top of the screen:

  2. Now open the second browser tab with the FTX sub-accounts page and create a new sub-account:

  3. Create a Sub Account with a memorable name:

  4. Switch back to your 3Commas My Exchanges page in the first browser tab you opened and start filling in the details. Give the account a good memorable Name (1) as this is what you will see in 3Commas when creating trades or bots. Make sure you enter the Sub account Name (2) exactly the same as on FTX - it is “case-sensitive” so be accurate, the name ‘3CommasTest’ is not the same as ‘3commastest’:

  5. Now switch back to the FTX browser tab and click the API menu option on the left side menu (3). Then click the name of your sub-account (4) to create an API key and Secret for the sub-account. Then scroll down the page and click on the Create API Key for 3CommasTest button (5):

  6. Now copy and paste the new API key and Secret from the FTX web page over to the 3Commas My Exchanges page that you have open in your other browser tab:

  7. Done! You can now successfully trade with Spot or Futures on your new FTX sub account! If you haven’t already, please remember to transfer some funds to your new sub account using the FTX web site.

Troubleshooting

If you get an error like this:

“Not authorized for subaccount-specific access, if you have just created this key, please wait 30 seconds and try again”

The problem is that the FTX Spot exchange account for your sub account is successfully created but the Futures account is not.

This problem is due to a known-limitation with FTX and our engineers are collaborating with FTX to get the issue resolved as soon as possible.

If you don’t want to trade Futures on this newly linked account, then you don’t need to do anything further as the Spot sub account has been connected successfully.

If you do want to use Futures on this newly linked sub account, then please follow the steps below:

  1. Refresh the My Exchanges page, so the newly linked account is displayed.

  2. Scroll down the page and look for the new FTX Spot sub account that was linked and click the Edit button.

  3. Go back to the FTX browser tab, close the new API key window and then click the Create New API Key button (6) again:

  4. Copy and paste these over the top of the saved values in the 3Commas My Exchanges page and save the new settings:

  5. The Spot sub account will be successfully refreshed and the Future sub account successfully created!

  6. Go back to the FTX browser tab and make a note of the first few characters of the API key you can see - “Dkbz2” in my example - and close the API key pop-up window.

  7. Look for the API key you created earlier that gave you the error on 3Commas when you used it and click the trashcan Delete button (7), as this API key is no longer required:

  8. Done! You can now successfully trade with Spot or Futures on your new FTX sub account! If you haven’t already, please remember to transfer some funds to your new sub account using the FTX web site.
