Kraken: Why some assets or balances don’t appear as available for trading

If your Kraken balance in 3Commas looks lower than expected or you see that certain coins appear separately (for example, ETH2.S, ADA.S, or XBT.B), this is expected behavior. Here’s what’s happening and how to verify everything is working correctly.

Updated this week

Regional Restrictions (U.S. Customers)

  • Some assets on Kraken are restricted for U.S. customers due to local regulations. These assets may still appear in 3Commas, but if they are restricted in your region, you won’t be able to trade them. Any attempt to place an order for a restricted asset will result in an error returned by Kraken.

  • For the latest list of regionally available cryptocurrencies and Kraken’s regulatory licenses, please refer to:

1. Staked assets display separately

If you use Kraken Earn or staking features, your staked coins are now displayed separately in 3Commas.

  • Staked assets (such as ETH2.S, ADA.S, XBT.B, XBT.M) appear as distinct entries in your balance.

  • These balances are excluded from “Funds Available for trading” when creating bots or SmartTrades.

  • Your total account balance in 3Commas now matches your Kraken account, while ensuring only unstaked assets are tradeable.

Example:
You hold 1 ETH on Kraken, and 0.5 ETH is staked under ETH2.S. In 3Commas, you’ll see:

  • 0.5 ETH available for trading

  • 0.5 ETH2.S displayed separately as staked funds

This update ensures accurate balance reporting and prevents staked funds from being used in trades.

2. Margin mode is enabled

Please check if Margin trading mode is enabled on your Kraken account. Assets used as collateral in margin trades are locked and will not appear as available via the API.

3. Nonce sync issues (EAPI errors)

A misconfigured Nonce window may cause API sync failures.

Common errors:

  • EAPI: Invalid nonce

  • Unable to load available balance

Go to your Kraken API key settings and set the Nonce window to 2000000 (2 million). Save and reconnect the API key in 3Commas.
