Odysee

A decentralized, serverless video hosting and distribution service built on the LBRY protocol.

Off-Chain

Any transaction or data processed outside the blockchain. Off-chain actions are often faster and cheaper but require some level of trust.

Off-Chain Governance

Decision-making that occurs outside the blockchain protocol — such as developer discussions, foundation proposals, or community meetings.

Off-Chain Transaction

A transaction that takes place outside the blockchain, often using sidechains or second-layer protocols to reduce costs and improve speed.

Off-Ledger Currency

A currency created outside the native blockchain ledger but still recognized or usable within that system.

Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)

A U.S. Treasury agency overseeing national banks, federal savings associations, and foreign bank branches operating in the U.S.

Offline Storage

Also known as cold storage, this refers to keeping crypto assets in wallets not connected to the internet to improve security.

Offshore Account

A bank or financial account held in a foreign country, often used for asset protection or privacy.

OHM Fork

A derivative project built using the codebase and economic design of OlympusDAO (OHM), often experimenting with variations of the original treasury-backed reserve currency model.

Omnichain

An approach to blockchain design that allows seamless communication and value transfer across different chains.

On-Balance Volume (OBV)

A momentum-based technical indicator that uses cumulative volume to predict price direction.

On-Chain

Activity or transactions that are permanently recorded on the blockchain and validated by nodes in the network.

On-Chain Governance

A structured, transparent process for managing blockchain upgrades or policy decisions through proposals and voting recorded directly on-chain.

On-Chain Structured Product

A blockchain-native financial product built using smart contracts that derives value from digital asset performance or other on-chain metrics.

On-Ledger Currency

A currency both created and used within the same blockchain ecosystem, like BTC on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Onchain Fiat

A regulated version of stablecoins designed to directly bridge fiat systems and Web3 through legal and compliance-focused rails.

One Cancels the Other Order (OCO)

A trading mechanism where placing two orders ensures that when one is executed, the other is automatically canceled.

Online Storage

Hot wallets or systems where cryptocurrency is stored in internet-connected devices for ease of access — but with higher security risks.

Ontorand Consensus Engine (Ontology)

Ontology’s consensus mechanism, also known as VBFT, which blends VRF, BFT, and PoS algorithms.

Open Finance (OpenFi)

The blending of traditional financial services (TradFi) with decentralized finance (DeFi), allowing greater accessibility and transparency.

Open Interest

The total number of active derivative contracts, such as futures or options, that haven't been settled or closed.

Open Source

Software with publicly available code, allowing anyone to inspect, modify, and distribute it under specified licenses.

Open/Close

Terms referring to either market price points during a time interval, or software design principles that encourage extendability.

OpenSea

A major decentralized marketplace for NFTs, allowing users to mint, buy, and sell digital assets peer-to-peer.

Opera Mainnet (Fantom)

Fantom’s mainnet infrastructure, offering a high-performance, permissionless environment for staking, governance, and DeFi.

Operating System (OS)

The underlying software layer managing a device’s hardware and system resources. Examples include Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Optimistic Oracle

An oracle system that assumes data is accurate unless disputed, using an economic game to incentivize honest reporting.

Optimistic Rollup

A Layer 2 solution that processes transactions off-chain and posts only the summary on-chain, assuming validity unless challenged.

Option

A financial derivative contract that gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset at a set price by a certain date.

Options Market

A trading venue for financial options, including crypto options, where traders speculate or hedge based on future asset price movements.

Oracle Extractable Value (OEV)

A form of MEV where oracles — data providers for smart contracts — can potentially extract value from privileged data access.

Oracle Manipulation

When an attacker interferes with the data feed from an oracle to mislead a smart contract’s execution logic.

Oracles

Entities that fetch, verify, and transmit off-chain data to blockchain systems, enabling smart contracts to interact with real-world events.

Order Book

A list of buy and sell orders for a particular asset organized by price level, used by exchanges to match trades.

Orphan

A valid block that is not part of the main blockchain, often due to simultaneous block discovery and temporary chain splits.

Orphaned Block

A block whose parent is missing or rejected, making it incompatible with the active blockchain history.

Ouroboros Praos

A secure proof-of-stake consensus protocol used by Cardano, designed to maintain randomness and resist adversarial attacks.

Over-Collateralization

A risk mitigation method where borrowers provide more collateral than the value of the loan to ensure repayment and system stability.

Over-the-Counter (OTC)

A method of trading directly between parties outside formal exchanges, often used for large transactions or personalized deals.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) Trading

Trading of crypto or other assets through broker-dealer networks rather than centralized exchanges, often involving negotiated terms.

Overbought

A condition indicating that an asset has experienced prolonged price increases and may be due for a pullback.

Oversold

A condition indicating that an asset has experienced prolonged price declines and may be undervalued or due for a bounce.
